love works #4 [judge by the cover]

Photobucket

My dear dreamers,

These last days I've been working on a cover for a friend's poetry book, Rogério Prado Mendonça. It is entitled "Sobre o Amor e Outras Coisas Amargas", which in English is something like "About Love and Other Bitter Stuff". A series of sad and touching poems, which, I believe, everyone will address to.

Here's a sample of his work:
Suddenly she moves,
then all things become silence
We hear only the music of their muscles,
the battery of her heart
the song for her steps
While she dances every gesture she makes is a kiss and a slap,
each gesture is joy and sadness,
each gesture is love and indifference (but mostly love)
When she dances the perfection of her body defies the gravity,
and the gravity surrenders
When she dances her gestures and her smile are cathedrals,
cathedrals suspended in movement and beauty
While she dances her eyes shed darkness and stars on the audience,
and her hair, taken by the movement, shoots galaxies into the void
Suddenly the music stops,
Suddenly the movement stops
The audience suffers for a moment with the end of the movement,
then bursts into applause
She smiles a powerful smile and then leaves the scene,
taking with her all those hearts

The movement, by Rogério Prado Mendonça

breathing #11 [here comes the rain]

My dear dreamers,

Rain by `yuumei on deviantART

I don't know about you, but here, winter came for good. Yes, winter. So I might get used to the cold and rainy days that awaits me. Apart from the headaches, I don't mind this weather. I used to, but what harm a little water can do?

Here are some warming outfits by Alix, the girl behind The Cherry Blossom Girl to inspire you up until the sun makes his appearance. I'm ashamed to say this, but I only found her today! (I'm going to look inside her closet now, see you later!)

inner-view #8 and a half [crazy sample]

- The Crazy Series!

My dear dreamers,

I had this idea to spice up my inner-view section. It's being a lot of fun to know a little bit more the persons I admire and which inspires me. However, I want to take one more step in these stairs I'm walking and do a series with Crazy Inner-views. Anyone interested can join, just send an e-mail to: innerview[dot]designingdream[at]gmail[dot]com.

Questions will be:

a little more personal (but not too personal ;))

will involve deep thinking (but it always do ^^)

♣ you'll have to think outside the box (so it's a challenge!)

And I answered the questions myself! Take a look:

1. Sell me an invisible pen.

Imagine the pen of your dreams. Now imagine I'm selling it to you.

2. What are three positive character traits you don't have?

1 - I'm always right.
2 - I never ask for advice.
3 - I'm perfect.

3. If you were a genie and a person asked you this wish, “I wish you would not grant me this wish” what would you do?

I would say: "I didn't, now you have two wishes left".

4. If you had to lose one of your five senses, which would you choose?

Taste. I'd still have the chance to imagine it by smelling. Why not the other way around? Because my memories are very related to smell.

5. If there was a next life, would you reincarnate in yourself? Why?

Yes, I don't know how to be anyone else, maybe I would screw them.

6. If you could have only 3 electrical appliances in your house, what would they be and why?

1 - Oven (to make delicious meals and desserts!)
2 - PC (to work and have fun)
3 - Tea machine (or another hot beverage, because I love them)

7. If you could choose between always being obese and living a long life, or never getting fat but only living until 40...what would you chose?

I love being alive so: welcome, fat world! (OK, this goes against my healthy life style, but if I live long that means I have a healthy life, right? And how sad it is to trade years of life just to be thin?)

8. What's your first memory?

It's one of the best memories I have and (yes!) it's a smell memory! I remember when I was on kindergarten and in the afternoons, right after lunch, we slept in a kind of an attic, with our favourite teddy and the mattress smelled like naphthalene  I didn't know that at the time and it was a nice smell to me because it was attached to a good moment. I only realized what naphthalene smelled like some years ago (3 or 4!).

The other one (happened at almost the same time so I don't know which is the first one) is also a smell memory: at the age of 3 I was trying to help my father taking the car off the garage. He didn't notice me so one of my fingers got pinched on the garage's door. I don't remember much of that, just the situation on itself, no pain is in my memory. That only comes later. My finger lost some meat and I went several times to RED CROSS to make the bandages. I remember that it hurted a lot. The all place smelled like ethylene. As I spent a big part of my time there, that smell also makes a good impression on me in spite of not being the best of my memories (but it's also not a bad one).

9. If you had the chance to be a you-version of the opposite sex for one day what would you do?

I would examine how my brain&heart works and see if there's much of a difference with the actual me.

10. And for the last one: If there was no wolf, which one of the 3 little pigs would you be?

I'd be Willie, the wood one. I'd like to live in an eco-friendly house and with some comfort.

♥ What crazy question would you like to ask?

love works #3 [rhapsody]

It's time to show you some of my newest works! I've been working on Flash lately, to rust off my skills and learn some new techniques. I'm also improving my CV that will be done (almost) entirely on this program. Any comments are appreciated!

This first one is in Portuguese, I made it for a job interview and it will be later integrated in my CV animation. I tried to associate colours to my personality, they are: violet for passionated (just like passion fruit), yellow for optimistic, dark blue for creative, red orange for ambitious, greyish blue for dreamer (is the colour of The Venus Project), pink for solidary, white for persistent and black for perfectionist. Click the link to see the animation.

breathing #10 [i love my body]

My dear dreamers,

Photobucket

Monday is finally here to give you some inspiration. But today I want you to take a deep breath and continuing to read this post if you have a strong stomach. October, 8th is all about eating disorder.

This is a subject I often struggle about, I don't quite comprehend it yet. I always had problems with my weight, I've never be thin. Even at my best (and called ideal) weight I always had this bits of fatness that doesn't make me feel perfectly comfortable with my body (anyway, I still love it). But I never starved or induced vomiting. I exercise but never at the point of having no more energy at all. I'm not criticizing anyone, no one gets hill because they want to. However, I'd like to understand how someone reach that point. Because it's a kind of suicide. And I don't understand suicide either.

When I see pictures of ANA and MIA (acronyms for Anorexia and Bulimia) and the comments people leave at them, I feel ashamed of this society. They often say: "Oh! So beautiful!" but how can a disease, that leads you to death!, be beautiful? How an healthy person can desire to be only skin and bones? How this society is so wrecked?

Take vanishing from Laura, that I used to illustrate this post, as an example. How do you interpret this image? Does Laura wanted to show a romantic scene? Or does she wants to tell you than anorexia is anything but pain?

Thr background sets the mood: it's neither black (grief) or white (peace). It's grey. And grey is nostalgia  loss, depression. You can see that boy and girl are both sad. He's comforting her, but almost afraid to touch her fragile body. Notice that he's dressed and she's not. She exposes her body to the fierce nature, fighting and subsiding at the same time. Yelling for someone to support her. For me, this shows unconditional love. Being there at your worst moment. Helping you facing your fears.

I'll let you compare the following photographs and decide which one deserves to be perpetuated. And, please, remember always: learn how to eat in an healthy way and don't let anybody hurt you by their "standards". Beauty comes in all forms and sizes.

The first image I'm about to show you was found in Tumblr, in a blog about skinny girls and re-passed along as something beautiful and desirable. I was in shock.

As I prefer brighter images, I'll end this post with how we should feel about ourselves.

eco design #6 [flitz your ass]

My dear dreamers,

This year I'm trying to be as optimistic as possible. No, I didn't find a job yet but I started a new project: I asked all my friends, teachers and colleagues to create a video about me, telling what are my most strong professional characteristics. If you think you can help me in any way, send me a message!

But I'm here today to tell you about a walking machine. I found it on Reasons for Optimism. Have you heard about Flitz? Don't try to search it on Google (I've warned you!).

Flitz it's a whole new concept of bike, where you are the machine. If you like to run and challenge yourself this is for you. Maybe it will even give you some sense of flying. Wow. Just take a look at the images and be in awe for some minutes:
